I had the pleasure of a long-overdue catch-up this morning with Dr Jo Barnes and Professor Andrew Morris at the Transport Safety Research Centre, at Loughborough University.

We spoke about their incredible work and our shared passion for reducing road harm - by collaborating and sharing the truth about its impact, not just physically, but psychologically and financially too.

I also had a go in their autonomous VR driving simulator - an impressive facility that has been cleverly designed so that the driving set-up can be easily changed, making it ideal for studying how people interact with vehicles - including things like age, distraction, tiredness and automated driving.

With the ability to recreate a wide range of driving scenarios and explore different car layouts and in-car systems, this simulator is set to be a real game changer for road safety research.
